The Maryland-National Capital Park Police was founded in 1953 by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC). It has grown into a diverse police department with 116 people, 95 sworn, and 21 civilian personnel.

Accreditated through The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), the Park Police secure and protect over 32,000 acres of park property in Montgomery County, Maryland on a 24-hour basis.
